Finding your house
Buying a house can take a great deal of time and energy. Most
people realize that obtaining a home mortgage will require research
and comparison-shopping. But before you deal with all of that, there
is an important step: you must find the house you want to buy.
Price is always going to be an important factor, and it is certainly
the factor that will most affect the terms of your home mortgage.
There are, however, other considerations that require forethought.
In general, the more you think about your needs before you look
for a house, the easier it will be when you actually begin the search.
Most people are aware that location is important when it comes
to choosing a residence. Obviously, the surrounding neighborhood
affects the value of the house. Also, families with children must
think about school districts. More generally, it is important to
think about how your day-to-day life will be affected. For instance,
will your commute to work be long and stressful? Do you live across
town from your child’s piano lessons? Make sure that your
home is in convenient proximity to the rest of your life.
Size is another important consideration. Determine your minimum
requirements (basic needs) as well as your fantasy space (wants).
Furthermore, figure out whether you have any flexibility with regard
to the type of space you buy. Apartments, condominiums and town
houses are all variations of the traditional house model, and may
better suit your needs (and budget).
Whether you have the assistance of a real estate agent or you’re
braving the market on your own, thinking about these issues before
you look for a house will make the entire process easier. |
