Simple Steps to Increasing Your Home’s Value
You spent a lot of money on your home. Why see all that money go
to waste when you want to sell? There are many things you can do
to increase your home’s value and most are low cost and even
free – when you know what to do.
Start with the outside. Clean up any garbage around the house,
clean up your landscaping and paint the house if needed. As the
famous cliché goes, “You only get one chance to make
a first impression.’ If the outside of your house is unappealing,
potential buyers are going to drive right on by.
Pick up old toys and lawn furniture that is rusting. Make the home
look lived in but not messy. Trim plants so they add to the beauty
of your home, not cover it up. Buyers are interested in what they
can see, make it look good and they may make you an offer. They
are also interested in what they can smell, so make sure garbage
is changed often and does not pile up.
Once the buyer is enticed by the outside you have to keep them
interested by making the inside appealing. Focus on things that
are the most visually noticeable. Floors, cabinets, bathrooms and
paint choices – all are important aspects of home improvement
that don’t cost much money but can put money in your pocket.
On the average if a seller puts money into the house they can recover
virtually 80-90 percent of the cost because it increases the home
value – leaving them with more money, for just a small amount
of work. When selling your home, make sure you don’t waste
the money you paid into that home – a little work up front
can mean big rewards in the end.
